DJ Dinner

Ajeeb.

On 27th October the daylight saving time ended in Ukraine and since then everything is ulta phulta. Can you imagine Maghrib around 4.40p.m something? :-/ It's so weird waise. Almost 3.30-4pm tak sooraj nikla hota hai and all of a sudden it just goes away and darkness sets in. Sooooper weird! Upar se I just cannot stop sleeping. Now that I am free by 7pm max and can actually go out I sleep. I FRIKKIN SLEEP! -_-

Mera mood off hai. I don't want to go back yet ='( I might not even get to see snowfall. Ya Allah please just once, thori si, mere janay se pehle yehan baraf bari ho jaye ameen. Sab mil ke bolo suma ameen!

--------------------- I have actually crossed all limits of late posts ---------------------

Khair tau I'll start with Saturday when I went to DJ's house for dinner. Actually, me, Ammi, Abbu and Chotay Bhaiyya. Daadi didn't go so Baray Bhaiyya stayed with her at home. Weird thing, dost uska dinner pe hum gaye thay =P

They live on the other side of the bridge.. it was a bit far but the drive was very pleasant. I am not sure if I have been to that area before as it was quite dark but the view esp. around the bridge at night time was AMAZING. I wish I had my camera but it would've been no use anyways as koi rukta nai mere photo craze ke liye -_- Second, it wasn't chilly on our side of town but it was at DJ's area. When I stepped out of the car I was like BrrRRrrRr! I wore a very stylish sweater shirt thingy maine socha kya zaroorat jacket pehannay ki phir pata chala kya zaroorat =P

Dinner was alot of fun. They had a lovely lovely home. Wohi nice chota sa.. warm, cosy and very homey homey =^_^= Aur sonay pe suhaga the food was FAB! They called it shudh "punjabi" khana and it was GOOD! Menu was: Dahi Boondi, Kalay Channay, White Zeera Rice, Kachori, Egg/Potato Cuttlet, a chicken curry which they said is Chicken Karahi but my Chotay bhaiyya was adamant ke Karahi aisi nai hoti so I'll just say Chicken Curry, Mint Chutney, Tomato Chutney, Achaar, Salad, and and ANDDDD CHAPATI!!! Allah hafton baad maine chapati khayi <3 Maine DJ ko poocha why he didn't make his fusion thing tau he said socha tau yehi tha but then I thought acha nai laga tau takaluf mai khana paray ga =P hahaha. Baad mai we had chai and homemade vanilla icecream. It was one of THE YUMMIEST vanilla I've ever had and I don't even like vanilla. Mere khayal mai vanilla is the MOST boring flavor you can pick =P I asked DJ ke homemade icecream kaise banti hai woh bhi itni zabardast and he told me about the icecream maker that I can take with me to Pakistan and also his method/recipe. Yum.. cannot wait to try it back home! =D

Acha, if you have seen my bucket list you'll know ke I want to learn how to chop like a chef. Like goli na ek dum.. never mind that I don't cook much or whateverrrrr BUT I would love to learn. Maine DJ ko bola to teach me and us din he DID!!! YAYYYY!!! =D He showed me all his knife collection: meat knife, chopping knife, carving knives and he also showed us a knife jis se bone bhi shape ya cut ho jaati o_O wow!

Is mai woh meat and chopping knife

Ye puri carving knives ka set

These are actually pretty expensive. The one that he uses is for $150! Wahan apni practice ke liye maine unki puri salad kaat di! Hahahah! See? =D They were quite kind waise to humor me on this even when my own family was making fun of me daba ke. Sab keh rahay thay maine subah k omelet ke liye saari chopping kar di but hey I got the gist and I have every intention of practicing it back home inshaAllah =P Another thing off my list hopefully!

DJ's wife is pregnant and she gave us a tour of her choti si nursery. It was so sweet.. waise I didn't take pictures but these were just toooooooooooooo cute to ignore! <3 Her due date is by the end of Nov but I won't be here now so... =(

By the end of the evening all the guys were watching some comedy show on tv while us gals checked out all clothes, jewelry, shoes and bags! I really liked their walk in closet. It wasn't that big but everything was so neat and organised. I am thinking of getting the same for my room back home. InshaAllah.

I also asked DJ why Sikhs don't eat meat.. wohi reason ke they don't hurt/kill to eat isliye they are vegetarians. Bhai asked Ammi to bring Salwaar Kameez (It's toooo funny the way indians say Salwaar =P )  for DJ's wife when we came here so this time they gave ALL of us gifts too. Jewelry and cosmetics for me, a Taj Mahal decoration piece for my parents and t-shirts for my brothers. I didn't take pictures then aur ab tau shayad Ammi ne pack bhi kar diye hon gay. Later maybe.

I really like these folks waise. So kind, welcoming and hospitable. When we were leaving tau DJ came to see us off and building entrance pe there were like 3-4 stairs. Wheelchair pe it's difficult tau I told Bhai I'll walk and he said nai woh waise hi stairs se utaar lega. I said mushkil hogi let me walk tau DJ said, "Arey kya hogaya sister do do bhai hain we'll manage!" and I thought that was so so sweet :')

I say that's another plus for Kyiv. When I visit next time I hope they are still here =)

Oh and on a totally unrelated note I found another painting in this house which I love. Take a look:

I still think I like this one more but this is a very very close second! What do you guys think?

Until next time. Ciao!

  2. Aasalam Aaliakum! InshaAllah it will snow before you come back, AMEEN! Okay now I understand reason of your disappearance. I wonder why you had chapati after very long time Aunty didn't made chapatis for you ? and what about chutneys & achaar didn't you like them ? Homemade Vanila Icecream sounds yummy and I think you did a fine job with those nice, I can see fine thin slices of onion & tomatoes. Aunty has packed those gifts that means you are coming BACK soon :'( Those little shoes are so cute. I've recently met Bohris & eat with them on Eid-ul-Fitr its really nice to meet & learn about other cultures & food. You are right previous painting is more beautiful as it has more details as compare to this one.

    1. Walaikum salam. Nai Ammi yehan chapati nai banateen.. it takes alot of time aur waisi sahi banti bhi nai. Lekin they have this turkish restaurant wahan se humare naan type roti aati hai but hey chapati is still chapati =P

Achaar tau humara hi tha Shezan ka =D lekin the chutneys were really good esp. the mint chutney.

Yes I am coming back soon matt yaad dilao :'(

That is why I love traveling.. meeting new people, experiencing new cultures and places. It's super fun!

Hain na? I like the idea of this painting but the other one still draws me like a magnet.

  3. Okay DJ sounds like an awesome person! Add him up on Twitter or Facebook :O
Secondly, those paintings are simply superb. Love the way the painter captured that neverending pathway and that lonely old bench. I can relate to it like a glove to a chilly Russian winter! :)

    2. hahaha that should be enough too :P
Yes they are :) That makes it even more beautiful! The painter must've been feeling the same way when he painted that. Autumn, that lonely old bench, and that unending pathway. Perfection!
